Religious Education

The RE curriculum we provide is  Discovery RE . As a school we have mapped this curriculum and the materials used against the Bolton Agreed Syllabus to ensure we provide an engaging curriculum that displays clear progression of learning and manageable assessment.

In RE we explore what people believe and what difference this makes to to how they live, so that pupils  gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to handle questions raised by religion and belief and reflect on their own ideas and ways of living.

Parents / carers have the a right to withdraw their child from RE as set out in Section 71(1) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998

If the parent of a pupil at a community, foundation or voluntary school [F2in England] requests that he may be wholly or partly excused from receiving religious education given at the school in accordance with the school's basic curriculum, the pupil shall be so excused until the request is withdrawn.

Should a parent/carer wish to withdraw their child from RE then they should contact the Headteacher via the main school office to formally request this.

As a school we have a duty ti supervise any pupils who have been withdrawn from RE but not to:

  • Provide additional teaching that is not RE
  • Incur extra costs
